Ben Strombeck

Benjamin “Ben” Paul Strombeck, 80, of Tripp, SD, entered his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 16, 2022 due to surgery complications following a decades-long battle with cancer.

His funeral service will be held at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Tripp, South Dakota on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Following the service will be the burial at Grace Hill Cemetary and a reception at the church.

Visitation will be held at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Tripp, South Dakota on Thursday, April 21 from 5-7 p.m. A prayer service will follow at 7 p.m.

Ben was born on August 28, 1941 to Paul and Adeline (Frerichs) Strombeck in Mitchell. He was baptized on October 15, 1941 and confirmed on May 15, 1955. He grew up in Mount Vernon where he met his high school sweetheart, Irmgard Rose (Schumacher) Strombeck. They were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell on June 24, 1962, and were blessed with four children.

After graduating from Mount Vernon High School in 1959, Ben went on to study Industrial Arts at SSTC in Springfield. Early on, he found that his true passion lay within teaching and mentoring high school students. This led to a fulfilling career as a beloved teacher and coach at Tripp High School.

After 38+ years, Ben retired and spent his time fishing, hunting, woodworking, helping anyone in need, and spending time with his family. He was a dedicated servant of Christ, who was heavily involved at Emmaus Lutheran Church as an elder and Sunday School teacher.

Ben was predeceased by his parents (Paul and Adeline Strombeck), sister and brother-in law (Donadee and Dean Nicholson), and sisters-in-law (Judy Hohn, Freida Fenster, Gloria Schumacher, and Alice Schumacher).

Ben is survived by the love of his life, Irm Strombeck, wife of 59 years 10 months; his four children: Barry (Cheri) Strombeck of Farmington, MN; Pam (Paul) Visaya of Maple Valley, WA; Marnie (Kevin) Chambless of Denver, CO; and Colin (Alicen) Strombeck of Bridgewater, SD; nine grandchildren: Courtney & Cody Visaya; Brittany (Fiancé Leaf) & Brady (Fiancé Samii) Strombeck; Haley & Annie Chambless; and Asher, Tekoa & Maizey Strombeck; and countless other friends and family that he positively impacted throughout his life.

Floral tributes are included at the end of the service program.

So sorry for your loss. My best memory of Ben is him being folded in half while I was at the wheel of the Drivers Ed car with the bench seat.

I met Ben when I started teaching in Tripp in 1989. He seemed to always have a smile on his face, and a funny story or joke to share. Our sincere condolences to Irm and the rest of Ben's family. We're sorry for your loss. May God bless you and keep you, and His peace be with you.

We were so saddened by the news of Ben's passing. He was a great teacher, friend and Christian. We enjoyed all his comical remarks at the "Cennex" and his constant teasing of life lessons!! What a great man. Bob and Rachel Heisinger
