Benjamin Lee Storgaard was born on October 25, 1983 at Viborg, South Dakota. He was the 3rd son of Mike and Carole (Johnson) Storgaard. He passed away on September 3, 2019 at his favorite spot overlooking the Missouri River. Ben was 35 years, 10 months, and 9 days.
Benny attended Springfield Elementary and graduated from Bon Homme High School in 2002. He always talked about the many cherished memories of his childhood – going to games at USD, his dad as youth basketball coach, spending countless hours on the boat, summers at Camp Gilbert, long games of Monopoly and Risk during a good blizzard.
Benny loved morning coffee with his mom and dad, daily excursions to Terrace Park with Bo, the Chargers, movies, and music. Above all he loved spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, his wonderful hugs, and his compassion for others.
Benjamin faced many struggles throughout his short life. A diagnosis of diabetes at the age of 5 had a major impact on his physical and mental health. He fought long and hard for many years to overcome those challenges.
Benjamin is survived by his 4-legged soulmate and constant companion, Bo; his parents Mike and Carole Storgaard of Springfield, SD; brother Pete (Brandi) Storgaard of Tea, SD; nephews: Chase and Cayden; niece Madelyn; uncles: Jim (Gloria) Storgaard, Daniel Johnson, John (Betty) Johnson, and Steve Johnson; and aunts Carol Herring, Wendy (Gail) Mathis, and Nancy Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his brother Jeffrey Storgaard, paternal grandparents Chester and Olga Storgaard, maternal grandparents J. Wendell and Helen Johnson, uncles Robert Herring an Dean M. Johnson, aunt Mary K. Swensen, and cousins: Dusty Herring, Leah Herring, and J.D. Johnson.
Like Ben would always tell Bo “Run like the wind.” If Bo could talk, he would tell Benny “Run like the wind and be free.”
Rest in peace dear Benny.
