Carole Anne Wynia

Carole Anne Wynia, age 72, of Yankton died Monday, January 27, 2020 at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Carole Anne Wynia was born Thursday, September 4, 1947 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Carson and Laura (Walka) Merkwan. Following high school graduation, she completed two years of school at Yankton College. Carole married Larry Wynia August 9, 1969 in Mitchell South Dakota.
Carole experienced a vast work history beginning as an aide at Springfield Elementary School in Springfield, South Dakota; secretary to the Dean of the School of Business at the University of South Dakota, in Vermillion, SD; daycare provider in Plankinton, SD and exercise instructor in Marion, SD. The last 24 years of her work career were spent as office manager for Johnson Engineers, Yankton, SD.
Carole loved to travel across the United States with her husband Larry; spending quality time with her family and watching her five grandchildren in their activities. She enjoyed reading, growing flowers and watching FOX news. Going to movies and out to dinner with Larry were some of her favorite things to do. She was a great cook. When her family came home to visit, they could smell the taverns and chocolate chip cookies the moment they entered the house. It was the smell of love. Carole loved to do Sudoku and crossword puzzles, camping and going on picnics. She enjoyed sitting on the deck watching birds, drinking coffee and visiting with Larry.
Her family and friends can attest to the fact that Carole was a loving wife and mother. She was happy and positive with a very caring personality. Carole was always looking out for her boys and in later years, that grew to include her two beautiful daughters-in-law and five grandchildren. She was described as a really smart lady. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Carole is survived by her husband Larry; children Scott (Darla) and their children Bailey and Steel of Lincoln, NE; Shane Wynia of Scotland, SD; Steve (Charina) and their children Grace, Jack and Anna of Becker, MN; mother-in-law Laura Merkwan of Yankton, SD; brothers Steve (Laurel) Merkwan and Gary Merkwan; sister Sally (Terry) Stucky; sister-in-law Kim (Steve) Carnes; brothers-in-law Virgil (Joyce) Wynia, Dennis (Marie) Wynia, Gale (Nancy) Wynia and Paul (Julie) Wynia; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carole was preceded in death by her father Carson Merkwan; father-in-law Howard Wynia; mother-in-law Dorris Wynia and sister-in-law Linda Merkwan.
