Cynthia Sue (Puetz) Schlimgen, born November 26, 1952, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, surrounded and comforted by her loving family. She was the beloved daughter of Florence (Vittetoe) and Lawrence Puetz and one of 19 children, the 18th in a large and close-knit family that farmed outside of Ethan. She attended Ethan Schools and graduated in 1971. During her childhood, she enjoyed playing softball, riding bikes, and life on the farm with her family.

On July 5, 1975, Cindy married the love of her life, Tom Schlimgen. They lived in Huron for three years before moving to Scotland, where they made their home for the past 48 years. Together, they built a happy life centered on faith and family. They welcomed four children into the world, Jill, Todd, Kim, and Julie, and later added Kimberlie and Marchell to complete their family. This past summer, they were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by a large gathering of family and friends.

Cindy never missed the many events her children and husband were involved in. She devoted countless hours in the gyms, at the baseball/softball parks, and in the concession stand. She enjoyed visiting family and friends, and occasional travel for leisure. She loved Elvis, family gatherings, volunteering at church, and playing games with friends around a table with laughter. She worked for Scotland Schools, Dr. Johnson’s Dental Office, and later Farmers and Merchants State Bank.

She was a proud and dedicated grandmother to 19 grandchildren and cherished by seven great grandchildren. She spent countless hours supporting her grandchildren in all of their extracurricular activities and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. Her legacy lives on through each of them, as well as through the countless lives she touched with her compassion, warmth, and steadfast faith.

Cindy’s life was a testament to her deep and unwavering faith, which guided her every step and shaped the love she poured into those around her. Her family was her heart, and she found her greatest happiness in gathering loved ones together, offering kindness, strength, and constant support. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, enduring love, and the strong foundation of faith and family she created. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her family finds comfort in the countless memories they shared and in knowing how truly blessed they were to have her in their lives.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Tom Schlimgen; her children, Kimberlie (Terry) Horn, Marchell (Jason) DeLange, Jill (Brady) Muth, Todd (Katy) Schlimgen, Kim (Jason) Johnson, and Julie (Steven) Deibert; her grandchildren, Taylor (Nichole), Caleb, Jacob, Jacob (Maria), Jadie, Ally (Dain), Luke, Colin (Brooke), Hannah, Addison, Kennedy, Lyle, Leia, Kayden, Chloe, Burklee, Makenna, Maddyn, and Maverick; and her great grandchildren, Carly, Leilani, Aailyah, Chelluna, Vivian, Lynlee, and Dezza. She is also survived by 11 siblings, numerous in-laws, and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mother and father in-law, seven siblings, several in-laws and several nieces and nephews.
