Dale Dietsch passed away peacefully at his home in Kaylor on October 24, 2025 at the age of 94. A memorial service, with military rites, will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, November 7 at Goglin Funeral Home in Scotland. Visitation begins at 4 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date with a private family gathering at Simental Cemetery, rural Kaylor.
Dale Thomas Dietsch was born on June 29, 1931 to Lawrence C. Dietsch and Ada Belle (Wilson) Dietsch in Midwest, Wyoming. He went to and graduated from high school in Russell, Kansas in 1950.
He enlisted in the Air Force on August 16, 1950 and served as an airframe repairman. He was trained in this specialty at Chanute AFB, IL, then was assigned to Ellsworth AFB, SD and Limestone AFB, Maine. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force on September 10, 1953.
While assigned to Ellsworth AFB, he met Dorothy C. Fuerst. They were married on April 29, 1953 at the Congregational Church in Kaylor, SD. Six children were born to this union. He was a farmer, blacksmith, welder and highway maintenance worker until his retirement.
Grateful for having shared his life is his wife of 69 years, Dorothy (deceased); his children and their families: Larry (Lorri) Dietsch of Springfield, SD, Julie (Bert) Bertoncino of Roach, MO, Donna (Mike) Spurlin of Rutherfordton, NC, Byron Dietsch (special friend, Pam Barrett) of Sioux Falls, SD, Betha (Scott) Nelson of Hartford, SD and Paula (Bruce) Vanderheiden of Mitchell, SD. He is survived by sister, Louise (Charles) Herrington of Wichita, KS; sister-in-law, Violet Fuerst of Scotland, SD and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Theophil and Magdalina Fuerst; his wife, Dorothy; his brother-in-law, Verlyn Fuerst; brother, Raymond Dietsch; sister-in-law, Ann Dietsch; nephew, John Fuerst and son-in-law, Lewis (Bert) Bertoncino.
