In her young adult years, she worked as a server at the Barn Restaurant in Huron and as a CNA at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home, also in Huron. On September 28, 1987, Darlis married Lyle John Fischer and a daughter, Rebecca Fischer, was born to this union. Lyle passed away in a motorcycle accident in the fall of 1989. In 2002, she began working at Prairie Home in Yankton and in 2004 she began working at Pine Lanes Assisted Living in Yankton. At both facilities, she worked as a Med Aide. On February 17, 2005, she and Ron welcomed Nicole Gilbert to the family. When Nicole turned two years old, Darlis decided to stay home to care for her. Darlis liked to go to the movies, go bowling, and spend time with her family and friends. She passed away after her battle with cancer on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at St. Michael’s Hospital Avera in Tyndall, having attained the age of 46 years, 9 months, and 16 days.

I am so Sorry for your Loss!I will always remember Darlis! One thing I will always remember is Darlis's strength as she was going through her treatments. Every time I seen her, she was always so positive about going through her cancer treatments. That really helped me carry the strength to get through mine! I will always remember that little girl Nichole! She always brought happiness to the patients at a time when we needed cheering up. I will always carry a special part in my heart for Darlis and her family!

I am very saddened to hear of this. She was a super kind gal. I still can remember her laugh. Take care everyone.
