Darryl was born on August 25, 1959 in Tyndall, South Dakota to Oscar and Katie (Vogel) Becvar. He grew up on the family farm in Avon. He attended Giedd Country School and later graduated from Avon High School in 1978. After high school, he enlisted in the National Guard. Once he fulfilled his terms, he was honorably discharged and he moved back to Avon where he spent two years studying diesel mechanics at Springfield College and worked on the family farm. Darryl was known to be a hard worker, was very committed to having an excellent garden, and was a lifelong farmer. He learned to farm with his father at an early age. As the years went on, he took over the family farm while he dedicated his time to care for his parents. During his free time, he liked fixing up old cars for derbies and canning vegetables from his garden. He would speak of his fond memories of serving in the National Guard, where he specialized in demolition. He enjoyed a challenge where he became unbeatable at checkers. He seemed to always find a way to pull a prank and he loved a good laugh.
