Dean David Schulte, age 58 of Mission Hill, died from complications of pneumonia, Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

A graveside memorial service, with military rites will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 23 at Garden of Memories in Yankton.

Dean was born April 30, 1965 to Richard R and Shirley (Schulz) Schulte in Yankton, SD. He was a graduate of Yankton Senior High School. Following graduation, Dean enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division. He married Carol Heckenlively Brewer September 27, 1996 in Yankton. Dean worked as a machine operator at Alumax, and later became a welder at Gehl’s and then Wilson Trailer. He retired in 2019 due to health issues.

Dean took great pride in caring for his lawn and garden. He enjoyed dancing with his wife and participated in dart and pool leagues. He took every opportunity he could to ride his Harley, attending poker runs with the Abate Lewis & Clark Club and going to rallies. He found it relaxing to fish and deer hunt with his friends at the Safari Club. Dean was truly willing to help anyone in need and loved his extended family.

Dean is survived by his wife, Carol; mother, Shirley (Darrell) McCloud; stepchildren, Patrick, Sherry and Paul; step-grandchildren, Devon, Corwin, Kendra, Gazmyne, Chase, Gage, Amber, Marcus and Tyler; 3 step-great-grandsons; siblings, Troy Schulte, Theresa Archuleta and Jean (Paul) Scherschligt; his furry companions, Tigger, Maddie and Harlee; niece, Elizabeth Brunken; mother-in-law, Verna Knoll; sisters-in-law, Kimberley Dingman and Sheila Heckenlively; stepbrother, Jason McCloud and step-nephew, Dakota McCloud.

He is preceded in death by his father, Richard R; grandparents, Frank and Lillian Schulz; brother-in-law, Tony Brunken; father-in-law, Robert Heckenlively and stepsister, Angie McCloud.
