DeAnna Lynn Hill, residing for the past 18 years in Custer, SD, developed dementia, which took her life September 14, 2024, at the age of 76. Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 18 at Goglin Funeral Home in Tyndall. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 19, at Goglin Funeral Home. Interment will be at Emmanuel Reformed Cemetery, rural Springfield.
DeAnna was born December 19, 1947 in the doctor’s office at Scotland, SD. She was brought home to Tyndall by her parents, Clarence and Gertrude (Dobesh) DeRoos. She was the second child born in the family which include her five siblings, David (Carolyn) DeRoos of Crofton, NE, Roberta Johnson, of Nokesville, VA, Frank (Sheri) DeRoos of Rozet, WY, Jean (Larry) Skow of Greeley, CO, and Sylvia Jett of Greeley.
DeAnna attended Tyndall Public School and met her future husband, Duane Hill at Groveland Park in Tyndall in 1964. They were married March 14, 1965. To this family were born, Tammy, Tina, Theresa and Todd.
The Hills lived in Tyndall for 10 years. While in high school DeAnna worked for Axel Johnson at the Tyndall Bakery and at the L&R Café. She transferred to the Tyndall High School cafeteria after marriage.
In 1975 they moved to Yankton, where DeAnna worked in the Yankton Public School cafeteria for 18 years. She retired after 10 years as pastry chef at Fryn’ Pan Restaurant in Yankton.
DeAnna and Duane retired in 2006 and moved to their log home in rural Custer in the Black Hills. She was an avid baker, enjoyed crocheting, reading her collection of 1,800 cook books, rummaging, canning, card games and dancing to country and big band music. She was the rock of the family, with 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
DeAnna is survived by her husband, Duane of Custer; and four children, Tammy (Dennis) Kokesh of Yankton, Tina Wysuph of Hoffman Estates, IL, Theresa Hill-Ridgway of Yankton, and Todd (Katie) Hill of Omaha, NE.
