Delbert "Delby" J. Hohn

December 25, 1943 — January 2, 2017

Delbert “Delby” Joseph Hohn was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1943 to Ray and Ella (Koster) Hohn in Parkston, South Dakota. He attended school through the 8th grade and went on to serve in the United States Army. In his younger years, Delby worked numerous construction trades across the US until he settled in Mitchell, SD. He truly loved the city of Mitchell and was glad to call it home. For over 11 years, he worked at Mitchell Concrete. When not at work, Delby was busy with his passion, fishing. He also enjoyed watching judicial and game shows on TV and had an enormous love of coffee, drinking several cups a day.
In 2015, due to his failing health Delby moved to Yankton to be near his daughter. Though he was sad to say goodbye to Mitchell, he felt blessed to be able to spend so much more time with his beloved family. Together they would go for drives and appreciate the scenery. He’d regularly treat his grandkids to pop and cookies. He’d dote on his “little angel” granddaughter and playfully tease his grandsons. Delby could appear serious, but his witty teasing would reveal his affection. He was truly proud of his grandchildren, cherished his daughter, and respected his son-in-law. He gave them many happy memories.
On Monday, January 2, 2017 in his home in Yankton, Delby passed away having attained the age of 73 years and 8 days.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa (Chris) Nelson-Goss of Yankton; granddaughter Anessa Nelson of Yankton; grandsons Breyton Nelson and Tayden Goss of Yankton; brother Denny (GeGe) Hohn of Mitchell, SD; sisters: Karen (Larry) Mountain of Gillette, WY, Edna (Kenny) Gable of IA, and Donna (Richard) Steiner of Parkston; and sister-in-law JoAnn Hohn of Rock Falls, IL.
He was preceded in death by his mother and brothers: Mel and Joel.
Delby’s family is respecting his wishes by cremating his remains and not holding any formal funeral services. Cards of sympathy or memorials may be directed to his daughter, Lisa Nelson-Goss at 1305 E. 15th St., Yankton, SD 57078.
