Dennis D. Dvorak

Dennis “Grumpy” DeWayne Dvorak was born on October 6, 1948 to Joe and Dorothy (Mace) Dvorak on the family farm west of Scotland, South Dakota. He graduated from Scotland High School. In 1968, he was united in marriage to Sandy Ridgway and they were blessed with three children. For a time, he worked as a mechanic at the Truck Stop in Yankton. He was also a mechanic at Kohlbergs and later drove truck for them. He then worked for varies trucking companies for several years. Dennis helped the Broin brothers on getting the ethanol plant back up and running. Lastly, he ran his own trucking company, “Gunsight Trucking.” He retired after driving truck for 50 years.
In his sparetime, he loved fishing, gardening, riding his motorcycle, and tinkering with mechanics. Many people knew him by his nickname “Grumpy.” He loved his pups, Lady and Spook. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dennis was a Nascar fan and attended several races with his friends, Randy and Tony. He loved trying to teach himself how to play the banjo and guitar. For the last several years, Dennis enjoyed his annual motorcycle trips with his buddies. Every morning he looked forward to morning coffee with the guys.
Dennis passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the Menno-Olivet Care Center in Menno, South Dakota having attained the age of 70 years, 3 months, and 7 days.
He is survived and remembered by his son Ron Dvorak and his family Rachael Dvorak, John Barkl, Kelly Tepe, Kiera, Logan, and Mason; his daughter Kristi Kayser and her family Steven, Theron, and Max Kayser; daughter Amy Pollreisz and her family Chris, Brayden, and Ashlynn Pollreisz; and sisters Donna (Roger) Harts and Phyllis (Don) Naber.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents George and Anna Dvorak, grandparents James and Elsie Mace, and niece Melissa Kaye Harts, and nephew Jeremy James Harts.
