Donald James Vogt

Donald James Vogt, age 81 of Yankton, died Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Sister James Care Center in Yankton.

Visitation will be held 6:30 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. wake, Friday, October 6 at Goglin Funeral Home in Yankton.

Funeral Mass is 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 7 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton.

Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 9 at Kahbakong Cemetery in Taylors Falls, Minnesota.

Donald James Vogt, son of John Sr. and Gertrude (Dartman) Vogt was born January 17^th, 1942, near Creighton, NE. He attended school in Creighton, NE. In February of 1964 he began serving in the United States Army until February of 1966. He was stationed at Fort Benning, GA. During that time, he met Barbara Lee Peterson and they were married on October 2, 1965 in Columbus, GA. After discharge from the Army, the couple moved back to Creighton, NE. They were blessed with three children; Kevin, Regina Kay, and Kregg. Later they moved to Yankton, SD where they raised their three kids.

Donald had a long career driving truck for more than 45 years. In 2010, Donald retired to Taylors Falls, MN and enjoyed spending more time with family and traveling. After his wife and daughter passed, he returned to SD to be closer to his sons. Throughout his life, Donald was active in the Catholic Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed watching football and NASCAR, but loved watching baseball, particularly the New York Yankees. Donald also had a talent for making pies, particularly the best sour cream apple pie. He was a loving and caring husband and father and will be remembered for his boisterous personality and strong work ethic.

Donald is survived by his sons, Kevin (Trish) Vogt of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kregg (Kristal) Vogt of Yankton, SD; brothers, John Jr (Marlene) Vogt, and Jerry Vogt; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by is wife, Barbara Vogt; daughter, Regina Kay Vogt; his parents, John Sr. and Gertrude Vogt; sisters, Jeanette Werner Johnson and Marilyn O’Connor; brother, Robert Vogt; brothers-in-law, Francis Werner and Darwin Johnson; and nephew, David Vogt.
