Edward Joseph Pesek was born on October 7, 1918 on the family farm near Scotland, SD, the youngest of three sons, to Joseph and Margaret (Maggie Hack) Pesek. Edward attended Petrick School District #20 through the 8th grade and several years later served on the school board of that District for many years.
Working with his father as a blacksmith, Edward became an experienced welder. This was asset for him when he enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Snelling, MN on February 12, 1942. He took his military training at several camps before being deployed overseas on November 1, 1942. After being stationed in Casablanca, French Morocco, Algiers and Sicily, he was transferred to Italy where he remained until being honorably discharged on September 28, 1945 with the rank of T5.
Upon returning to the States, Edward then worked outside of Bon Homme County. On February 12, 1947, Adeline (Hejl) and Edward were united in marriage at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lesterville, SD. They began their farming career on a rented farm near his birthplace. During this time, 3 daughters were born to their union. In 1961, they purchased a farm near Tyndall, SD and farmed there until retiring in 1982 at which they purchased a home in Tyndall, SD. While on the farm, Edward and Adeline raised many hogs, cattle, poultry, and a variety of field crops. After retiring, they did considerable amount of traveling until they were no longer able to due to health issues.
Edward was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus, and St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Tyndall, SD.
Edward passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society of Tyndall having attained the age of 96 years, 10 months, and 30 days.
He is survived by 3 daughters: Florence and husband Kenneth Powers of Avon, SD, Elaine and husband Thomas Jaeger of Platte, SD, and Joyce and husband Kenneth Diediker of Dixon, NE; 6 grandchildren: Stacey and wife Julie Powers of Avon, SD, Melissa (Powers) and husband Matt DePauw of San Francisco, CA, Jackie (Jaeger) and husband Steve Thomson of Sioux Falls, SD, Carla (Jaeger) and husband Gerald Eppel of Mitchell, SD, Sam Jaeger of Minneapolis, MN, and Denise (Diediker) and husband Joe Dangberg of Wayne, NE; 11 great-grandchildren: Andrew Powers and fiancée Kelsey Mesman, Jackson Powers, twins Hayden and Hanna Powers, Max Thomson, twins Felicity and Vanessa Thomson, Luke Eppel, Emma Eppel, Johnathan Dangberg, and Thomas Dangberg; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Adeline on February 3, 2012, his parents, brother and sister-in-law John and Kathleen Pesek, and brother and sister-in-law Emil and Ardyth Pesek.
