Ed Sykora was born on September 4, 1931 to George and Helen (Rada) Sykora on a farm near Vodnany, SD. Ed went through 8th grade in country school, later receiving his GED. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954, stationed in Germany.
He was united in marriage to Janet Hakl on January 17, 1955. To this union 3 children were born: Roger, David, and Debbie. Following his time in the service, Ed returned to the farm and farmed all his life. In his free time, Ed enjoyed collecting and restoring antique tractors. He belonged to the Tri State Old Iron tractor club. He also enjoyed attending his grandkids’ and great-grandkids’ activities and sports. Without fail, Ed planted a large garden every year.
Ed is survived by his wife of 69 years, Janet; sisters, Marion Becvar, Agnes (Allen) Karolevitz, and Helen (Duane) Chladek; son, Roger (Sandy) Sykora, children, Carrie (Matt) Smith, children, Landon and Carter; Jeff (Megan) Sykora, children, Jax, Levi, and Drew; Jody (Steve) Settje, children, Asher, Luke and Rylie; son, David (Linda) Sykora, children, Cory Sykora (Haydee Torres), Joey (Camille) Sykora, children, Cambrie, Raegan, and Madelyn; Chad Sykora, Zach Sykora, and Camille Sykora; daughter, Debbie (Steve) Goossen, children, Dan (Amy) Nachtigall, son, Ian, Ben (Trista) Nachtigall, Katie (Tanner) Rupp, daughter, Sawyer; and Rachel Goossen.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, John Becvar.
