Eldon Vermaine Hahn was born on August 8, 1930 to Gottlieb and Adeline (Guthmiller) Hahn at the family home in rural Tripp, South Dakota. At Emmaus Lutheran Church in Tripp he was baptized on August 31, 1930 and confirmed on July 2, 1944. He attended Maag #81 school in rural Tripp through the 8th grade. As a young man, Eldon farmed alongside is family.
On December 19, 1950, he was united in marriage to Arlene Lippert at the Tripp Baptist Church. Eldon was a very active member of Emmaus Lutheran Church teaching Sunday school and serving as an elder as well as president of the congregation.
For several years, Eldon worked alongside his dad shelling corn and custom trucking. He then began his own custom combining business. Eldon trucked cucumbers that were raised by citizens in Tripp and the surrounding area. He delivered the cucumbers to the Gedney Company in Chaska, Minnesota. Eldon was also a DeKalb seed dealer.
Later in life, he enjoyed transporting the residents of the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp as a van driver as well as delivering the local Meals on Wheels. He was also involved with Prison Ministries. Eldon always had a smile on his face. He loved going for rides on his Gold Wing motorcycle alongside his wife. One vacation found them traveling as far as California on the Gold Wing. Eldon also looked forward to his evening meals out with Delilah where he would enjoy the food and company. He enjoyed his morning coffee and afternoon pop breaks with friendly conversations at Gall’s Auto. Eldon was a skilled accordion player and enjoyed playing and sharing his love of polka music.
Eldon passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at the Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital in Scotland, South Dakota having attained the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 15 days.
He is survived and remembered by his children: Larry (Pam) Hahn of Elizabeth, CO, Delilah Hahn of Scotland, SD, and Lennis (Kathleen) Hahn of Lennox, SD; grandchildren: Jennifer Farris, Christopher Hahn, Joshua Hahn, Kalley Fox, Austin Hahn, and Derek Hahn; 8 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Elmer Lippert of Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law Delores Lippert of Mitchell, SD; 4 nieces; and 6 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, son Kelly Hahn, and his parents.
