Elizabeth “Betty” Slama formerly of Tabor, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 1 day.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, July 11 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Tabor. Rosary will be prayed at 1:15 p.m. Funeral Mass, celebrated by Fr. Darin Schmidt, will begin at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Tabor.
Elizabeth was born August 8, 1933 in rural Yankton to Emil and Helen (Kralicek) Hejna. She was a graduate of Tabor High School. Betty received a teaching certificate from Southern State College in Springfield. Prior to her marriage, Betty was a rural elementary school teacher.
Betty married Ladimir D. Slama June 8, 1954 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Tabor. They made their home in rural Tabor where they raised their five children, John, Shirley, Patricia, Diane and Michael. Betty enjoyed the farm life, where she raised chickens, gardened and helped Laddie wherever she was needed.
She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Parish and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Betty is survived by her five children, John (Margie), Shirley Herrboldt, Patricia Dougherty, Diane Cordaro and Michael (Sandy) Slama; grandchildren, Bob Slama, Stacey Schulz, Kristi Flemming, Chad Herrboldt, Nick Herrboldt, Catherine Davis, Jamie Worrall, Kelsey Schmidt, Jackson Worrall, Ashley Mickiewicz, Mallory Slama, Laura Schoenwald and Joey Slama; 17 great-grandchildren; brother Robert “Bob” (Kathy) Hejna; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hejna and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 46 years, Laddie; in-laws, Rose and Adolph Slama; brothers, Emil Jr. (Lila) Hejna, Steve (Donna) Hejna, Larry Hejna, Kenneth (Agnes) Hejna, Lloyd Hejna and Clarence Hejna.
