Esther Konstanz was born on Tuesday, June 22, 1915 to Jacob and Lydia (Schneider) Pietz on the family farm near Delmont, South Dakota. She attended Pearly Mound Country School through the eighth grade. Esther married Emil Konstanz on January 3, 1933 at Tripp and farmed southeast of Delmont. Esther enjoyed life on the farm and her primary responsibility was tending and raising thousands of chickens, in which she took great pride. Her other talents included cooking and baking, gardening and sewing. In 1972 Esther and Emil retired to Tripp. Emil passed away on February 4, 1989. Esther passed away April 1, 2008 under hospice care at the Good Samaritan Society in Tripp at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 9 days.
She is survived by two daughters, Alvina Werning of Emery and Alvera Konstanz of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren; Gary, Russell, Debra, Chad and Christopher; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Hilda Roth of Tripp and Berniece Kirchhevel of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband Emil, a son Allen in infancy, her parents, Jacob and Lydia Pietz, two brothers, Benjamin Pietz and Alvin Pietz, one sister, Leontina Ulmer, two infant brothers, two infant sisters and a son-in-law, Marvin Werning.
