Eugene Bietz

Eugene Bietz passed away Friday, September 23, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society in Scotland, at the age of 103.

Eugene Ruben Bietz was born on February 6, 1919 to George and Justina (Nusz) Bietz, on a farm near Kaylor, SD. He was baptized in March of 1919 at Hoffnungstahl Lutheran Church, near where he eventually farmed. He was confirmed in the Dennewitz Lutheran Church near Tripp, SD by Pastor Paul Briest.

Eugene was united in marriage to Ella Bartel on September 14, 1944. They had three lovely children, Dennis, Donna and Sandra. They made their home 10 miles northwest of Scotland where they farmed together for 40 years. They built a home in Scotland and moved there in the mid-80s to enjoy their retirement.

Eugene served on the city council and the Zion Lutheran Council, was a Rotary member and belonged to the Gideons. Eugene and Ella enjoyed their bible studies and pinochle with friends. Eugene moved to Good Samaritan Center in the fall of 2014. He very much appreciated the loving care given to him there. He was a quiet man and believed in faith, family and farming. Farming was a part of him, his whole lifetime.

Grateful for his memory are survivors, son, Dennis and family: Mike and Stephanie Bietz and their children, Annaliese, Emersen and Polly and daughter, Amy and Tim Bartlett and their son, Nate; daughter, Donna and Ron Nelson and family: Sarah and Kyle Streich and their children, Carlie, Drew and Lily; daughter, the late Sandra Yackley’s family: Jill Ireland and Justin Weiland and their children, Pearl and Ruby, Jake and Kelli Ireland, Josh and Theresa Ireland; many nieces and nephews. Eugene is also survived by his brother, Leo Bietz.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ella; brother, Alvin Bietz; sisters, Olive Voll, Luella Dresen, Lorraine Dresen; daughter, Sandra Yackley and daughter-in-law, Dorothy Bietz.
