Gerald James Maruska, age 89 of Edinburg, TX, formerly of Scotland, SD passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Edinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Edinburg.
A graveside memorial service with military honors will begin 11 a.m. Monday, June 9 at Rosehill Cemetery in Scotland.
Gerald James Maruska, known to many as Jerry, was born on May 16, 1936, in Scotland, South Dakota, to Edward and Ida (Dummer) Maruska. He grew up in Scotland and graduated from Scotland High School on May 16, 1955.
After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army, dedicating over 20 years of honorable service to his country. His military career was marked by numerous awards and
recognitions, including seven overseas tours including the Vietnam War.
Gerald was blessed with a loving family. He is survived by his four sons: Jeffery (Michael) of Lafayette, IN, David (Carmen) of Watauga, TX, Klaus of Janesville, WI, and Brian (Selena) of Winnsboro, TX.
In May of 1993, Jerry married Deanne Clough, providing him with five stepchildren: Kurtis (JoAnn) Kayser, Wayne (Chris) Kayser, Sherrie Wagner, Carrie (Jim) Gun, and Steven (Kristi) Kayser.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Deanne; parents, Edward and Ida; his sisters, Arlene (Don) Kizer and Marge (Jack) Turner, and his brothers, Frances (Dorothy) and Norman (Nellie).
He is survived by his sister, Carol Grambihler; his former wife, Elvira Maruska, the mother of his sons, and numerous grandchildren.
Jerry's life was a testament to dedication, love, and service. His memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Gerald James Maruska's legacy of strength, and patriotism will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
