Geri grew up in Constance with her blended family. Geri always thought of her half sisters as her full sisters. She had found memories of her full childhood home, living with her grandparents, parents, siblings, aunt and cousin.
Geri attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Constance about a mile from the family farm. She attended Crofton High School where she made lifetime friends. After high school Geri attended Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD.
On June 26, 1952 Geri married Leon Gobel at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Constance, NE. Geri and Leon moved to Alaska where Leon was stationed. After their oldest child was born, they moved to Quimby, Iowa where Geri was a farmwife. In 1960 the family moved to Bloomfield, NE and continued to farm. In the 1980s Geri worked at the Bloomfield Good Samaritan as a CNA. Geri was member of St. Andrew and later St. Rose of Lima, where she was active in the women’s guild, lector, CCD and altar society. After moving to Crofton, Geri retired from the nursing home and started working part-time with the housing authority at Cottonwood Villa in Crofton. Geri loved to sew, do handiwork, read, and go on adventures. She especially loved Sunday drives to see favorite places and new adventures like “Swan Lake.” Geri supported education, donating her body to science and finding a path for her family and friends. Geri was known for her quick wit, let’s get down to business attitude, her love of puns and her devotion to her religion. To her family and friends she was their support, seamstress, wake-up call (when needed or not), fashion consultant, dry humor entertainer and most of all loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, mother-in-law and friend.
Geraldine is survived by her children: daughter, Chris Carlow of Crofton, daughter-in-law, Cherri Gobel of Azel, TX, son, Douglas and Renee Gobel of Wausa, daughter, Charity and Dwayne Schantz of Fordyce; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and brother, Bill Kremer of Yankton SD.
