James (Jim) Kunzweiler, age 84, of Yankton, South Dakota, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton. Visitation will take place on Friday, September 26, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Goglin Funeral Home in Yankton, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
James Edward Kunzweiler was born on April 20, 1941, to Edward and Darlene (Bullis) Kunzweiler in Chamberlain, SD. He graduated from Kimball High School in 1960 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern State Teachers and Trade School in Springfield, SD, in 1964.
On June 7, 1965, he married Darlene Peters of White Lake, SD. Jim began his career with the State Highway Department and later joined Bomgaars, where he worked as a store manager throughout his career until retiring in 2010. He was an avid woodworker who also enjoyed golfing, hunting, cheering for the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, and sharing morning coffee with friends. Above all, Jim cherished his family and the time spent with them.
Jim is survived by his wife, Darlene Kunzweiler of Yankton; his children, Jackie (Katie Dailey)
Kunzweiler of Canistota, SD, and Todd (Rhodora) Kunzweiler of Honolulu, HI; his grandson, Michael (Becky Plotkin) Kunzweiler of Los Angeles, CA; his sister-in-law, Arlene (Gary) Anderson of Coeur d’Alene, ID; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were all special to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Alvin (Eleanor) Peters; his sisters-in-law, Norma (Vernon) Clutter and Eleanor (Leonard) Baumgart; along with numerous members of the Kunzweiler, Bullis, and Peters families.
Jim’s warmth, generosity, and sense of humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
