Janet Marie Sykora, age 91, of Tabor, SD passed away Monday, March 9, 2026 at Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall after a brief illness.
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, March 21st at 10:30 a.m. A wake will be held on Friday, March 20th at 7 p.m. with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Pallbearers are Dan Nachtigall, Cory Sykora, Jeff Sykora, and Joey Sykora. Honorary pallbearers are all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Janet Sykora was born on July 27, 1934 to Edward and Paulene (Hladky) Hakl in Tabor, SD. Janet went to elementary and high school in Tabor, SD.
She was united in marriage to Edward Sykora on January 17, 1955. To this union 3 children were born: Roger, David, and Debbie. She worked for a short time at B-Y Electric. They started their married life living in Tabor and later moved to the farm by Scotland. Janet raised chickens and also sold them. She was a great cook and no one went away from her house hungry. Her grandkids especially enjoyed her dumplings and chocolate cake with sugar and milk. She also enjoyed attending her grandkids’ and great-grandkids’ activities and sports. She also was a member of the Tabor Altar Society.
Janet is survived by her son Roger (Sandy) Sykora, children Carrie (Matt) Smith, children Landon and Carter; Jeff (Megan) Sykora, children Jax, Levi, and Drew; Jody (Steve) Settje, children Asher, Luke and Rylee; son David (Linda) Sykora, children Cory (Haydee) Sykora, Joey (Camille) Sykora, children Cambrie, Raegan, Madelyn, and baby boy due in May; Chad Sykora, Zach Sykora, and Camille Sykora (Tyrus Bietz); daughter Debbie (Steve) Goossen, children Dan Nachtigall, son Ian, Ben (Trista) Nachtigall, Katie (Tanner) Rupp, children Sawyer and Crew; and Rachel Goossen (fiancé Jeremy Waldner); her sisters-in-law: Marion Becvar, Agnes (Allen) Karolevitz, and Helen (Duane) Chladek.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, parents-in-law, George and Helen Sykora, and her brother-in-law, John Becvar.
