John William Sedlacek was born January 29, 1943 to Wesley and Helen (Sternhagen) Sedlacek. He was a 1961 graduate of Scotland High School. In 1964 John served 4 months with the Army at Fort Carson Colorado prior to entering the Army National Guard.
He enjoyed a life centered around family, hard work, and the outdoors. He had a strong love for sports, especially football, and took pride in time spent with his sons at games and activities. He was passionate about farming, working alongside his sons, raising Limousin cattle, and took great pride in his lifelong connection to the family farm, where he spent most of his years and remained committed to keeping it in the family name. He was actively involved in 4-H with his children, supporting and encouraging their interests. He and his wife, Lois, were married for 46 years after their marriage on December 29, 1966, and enjoyed traveling together to attend livestock events including the Iowa Beef Expo, Black Hills Stock Show, the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic, and the livestock show at the South Dakota State Fair. A devoted Catholic, John, his wife and family attended Vodnany Church until it closed, then became members of St. Leo Catholic Church. Above all, his greatest focus and joy was his family.
John’s memory will be treasured by daughter, Mary and her husband Sid Brandt of Tabor; son, Jared Sedlacek of Tyndall and two grandchildren, Wesley Brandt and Ava Brandt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wes and Helen; his wife, Lois; and sons, Jeffrey and Mark.
