Kim Jay Hackett was born on March 22, 1960 to Norman “Dutch” and Betty (McMurray) Hackett in Yankton, South Dakota. Throughout his life, Kim worked various jobs and lived in many towns across the state. For the greater part of his adult life, Kim’s favorite occupation was working as a semi-truck driver. In the last 5 years of his life, he returned to his hometown of Yankton. Kim was an easy-going man who enjoyed spending time with his old friends and the occasional game of video lottery.
Kim passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Doherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls having attained the age of 56 years, 9 months, and 20 days.
He is survived by his children: Derek (Trista) Hackett of Sioux Falls, Dustin Hackett of Madison, and Randi (Derek) Lease of Coleman, SD; sisters: Dianna (Llowell) Janssen of Yankton, Deb Flynn of Yankton, and Sandy Keipke of Norfolk, NE; brothers: Butch Llewellyn, Rodney Hackett of Norfolk, Terry Hackett of Yankton, and Harvey (Amy) Hackett of Greatfalls, MT; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Anderson, brothers: Rich Hackett, DeWayne Llewellyn, and Craig Hackett, nephew Todd Hoffman, uncle Ray Hackett, and brothers-in-law Gary Keipke and Gary Wolhey.
