LaMont Lange, formerly of Tyndall, died Friday, September 29, 2023 at his home in Sioux Falls. He had recently celebrated his 83rd birthday.

LaMont Charles Lange was born September 21, 1940 to Marlen and Caroline (Hausman) Lange at Hartington, Nebraska. Following high school in Hartington, he completed barber school in Sioux City, Iowa. LaMont married JoAnn Nelson September 16, 1961 in Laverne, Minnesota. Then began their journey in the world of barbering and raising their two children. LaMont’s first barber shop was in Wolsey, SD in 1963. From there he barbered in Yankton and Utica in 1971 until he found his forever shop in Tyndall, SD in 1981, working until retirement in 2019. He and JoAnn moved to Sioux Falls in 2020 to be with family, where he spent the remainder of his years.

LaMont was an avid baseball fan, especially when the Atlanta Braves were playing. He made many hunting outings with his son, Jade, nephew, Chuck and special black labs, Brooke and Abby. LaMont enjoyed bowling, country music, and trips to Nashville and Branson with JoAnn. He loved playing with his grandkids and watching them in all their activities.

LaMont loved to visit and tell stories, make people laugh and was always willing to help others. As his son-in-law said, “It’s always an adventure when LaMont is involved.” He will be deeply missed by his grandkids, as they were the light of his life.

LaMont is survived by his wife of 62 years, JoAnn Lange of Sioux Falls; son, Jade Lange of Sioux Falls; daughter, Tricia (Matt) Bierema of Hartford; grandkids, Mason, Ashton, Alaina and Tytan, all of Hartford; siblings, Norma Aschoff of Des Moines, IA, Marlene (Marlin) Palmer of Tacoma, WA, Bonnie (Larry) Dooley of Yankton, Jack Lange of Milan, IL and Tom (Sue) Lange of Hartington, NE, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Caroline and Marlen Lange; brothers, Parker and Rod Lange; brothers-in-law, Chuck Jolley Sr, Dennis Aschoff and Ron Hamberger.
