Laura Ochsner of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and formerly of Scotland, South Dakota, died Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Methodist Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Laura was born to Eldon and Marlene (Schneider) Ochsner on March 11, 1960. She attended Scotland High School, graduating in 1978. Laura went on to pursue a degree in nursing from Mount Marty College, class of 1984. She began working for the Veterans Administration as a nurse at the Hot Springs hospital. Laura transferred to the Minneapolis VA in 1988, where she devoted 28 years of service as a nurse and helped develop telemedicine care for diabetic veterans until her retirement in 2016. A natural caretaker, Laura knew when to be comforting and when to be the voice of reason. Laura loved to learn and to keep up to date on the latest information about our world: medical, political, or environmental. She loved to hunt for a good bargain when shopping - always on the look out for items at a great price that someone she knew could use. Her latest passion was to perfect her baking of kuchen. Her father believed she had accomplished that goal.
Laura is survived by her father, Eldon Ochsner, Sioux Falls SD; sister, Cheryl Munkvold (Marty), Tea SD; brother, Robert Ochsner, Minneapolis MN; niece, Abby Gullickson (Joel), Harrisburg SD; nephew, Evan Munkvold, Tea SD; life long family friend, Nancy Eggers, Eden Prairie MN; uncle, Ken Ochsner, Kaylor, SD and Ozzie, her beloved sheltie. Laura had several dear friends who were her family in Minnesota.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Marlene Ochsner; aunts, Arlys Schneider and Dorothy (Ken) Ochsner; uncles, Myron and Norman Ochsner; along with grandparents, Linda and Ted Schneider and Fredrick and Martha Ochsner.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to either the Vasculitis Foundation or to the Fisher House Foundation which supports military families during hospitalizations.
