Leon “Butch” Heine was born at Yankton, SD January 8th, 1947, to Alphonse and Clara Heine (Rolfes). He grew up near St. Helena Nebraska and spent years working at the family farm and then trucking. Butch worked hard, played hard, loved hard, and died hard. Butch had a heart of gold, and appropriate or not, he always had something to say to make you smile. His generosity and kindness to those in need and especially to anyone he loved, knew no bounds. He was a diligent and loving caretaker to his wife, Arlene, in the last years of her life.
Butch is survived by his children, Paula Frank (Carl), Rebecca Schieffer (Noah), and Justin Heine (Megan); his grandchildren, Chris Frank (Amanda), Alexa Schieffer Herrington, Nick Frank, Justin Frank, Andrew Schieffer, Brandon Schieffer, Brady Heine, AJay Heine, Corey Heine, and Kaylie Heine. He had 4 great-grandchildren, Jayden Frank, Madison Frank, Rosie Herrington, and Drew “Doobie” Herrington. Butch is also survived by his brother-in-law, Dennis Arens; brother, Allen Heine (Mitzi); special friends, Stanely and Lucy Hoefs; nephew, Kevin Liegl; friends, Donald and Marcia Albers, Lloyd and Janice Sudbeck, the Gerald Fisher family, the Jerry Uhing family, and all of the amazing card club members.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Arlene; sister, Mary Frances Arens; brother, John Nicolas Heine, and sister, Josephine Heine in infancy.
Butch left the world on his own terms but made lasting memories for his family to cherish. As my dad would say to all in encouragement, “give ‘em hell.”
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 1st at the Nebraska Corps of Discovery Center (off Hwy 81) from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. for all family and friends who would like to come, eat, and tell stories of Butch.
