Leona Mae Weidenbach was born on July 2, 1946 to Claude S. and Ruth Naomi (Landis) Mumbauer in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Accepting Jesus Christ at a young age she was later baptized as a young person by Rev. John Sprunger. In 1964, she graduated from Quakertown Community High School and went on to attend college. In 1970, Leona graduated from Grace University in Omaha, NE having earned a diploma in Business Education and Biblical Studies. She then attended Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, graduating in 1973 with a diploma in Communications and Journalism. Following her education, Leona served in short-term missions. For 2 years, she served at American Indian Ministries in Rapid City, SD and then as a corpsman for Christian Service Corps in Washington, DC for 2.5 years where she met Lyle Richard Weidenbach. On August 5, 1978, Leona and Lyle were united in marriage at East Swamp Church in Quakertown, PA.
Leona was always hardworking. Through the years, she worked various part-time jobs to aid her family. On their farm near Lesterville, Leona graciously became a tireless farmwife. She also enjoyed serving as a substitute teacher for the Scotland Elementary School. Having a “servant’s heart,” Leona lived out her faith.  She enjoyed studying the Scriptures and teaching children and youth about Jesus through various programs utilizing her creativity and gift of music. In her care for others she was generous and compassionate – sewing quilts, clothing, and supplying outfitted dolls for Children's Inn in Sioux Falls. She was frequently concerned about those going through a hard time and showed them Jesus’ love through her hospitality. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, playing the piano, and teaching her daughters how to sing.
Leona was a beautiful, godly woman and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Leona passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota having attained the age of 70 years, 4 months, and 24 days.
She is survived and remembered by her husband of 38 years, Lyle Weidenbach of Lesterville; daughters: Abigail Ruth (Michael) Colby of Sioux Falls and Audrey Renae (Evan) Fast of Sioux Falls; grandson Aidan Matthew Stewart; granddaughter Sophia Juliet Colby; sisters: Claudette (Glenn) Kipp of Quakertown, PA, Darlene Mumbauer of Philadelphia, PA, Naomi (Steve) Strunk of Quakertown, PA, and Faith Zimmerman of Quakertown, PA; brothers: Claude (Nancy) Mumbauer of Sellersville, PA, David (Ruthie) Mumbauer of Quakertown, PA, and Timothy (Jenny) Mumbauer of Broadway, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
