Marcella Mae Breitkreutz was born on January 26, 1934 to Helmuth and Viola (Hoff) Herr on the family farm 4 miles north of Ree Heights, South Dakota. She attended country school through the 8th grade. She was confirmed in the Christian faith at Frieden’s Reformed Church in Tripp, South Dakota. On May 8, 1955, she was united in marriage to Marvin Breitkreutz in Tripp. Together they made their home on a farm in rural Tripp where Marvin farmed and Marcella helped as a devoted, capable farmwife. She enjoyed the daily tasks of milking the cows and gathering eggs, as well as growing pickles for the Gedney Food Company of Minnesota. In 1985, Marcella retired from the farm and moved into their newly built home in Tripp.
Marcella was a very active woman in the community and volunteered in numerous ways. She enjoyed helping her neighbors and friends. She was a lifetime member of the Tripp American Legion Auxiliary. For several years, she served as a Sunday school teacher at Frieden’s. Marcella was also a summer school teacher and local librarian. She delivered meals on wheels as well as volunteered at the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp.
Marcella passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston having attained the age of 85 years, 5 months, and 19 days.
She is survived and remembered by her special friend Marvin Ebright; aunt Edna Heisinger; sisters-in-law Deloris Herr and Arlene Schmidt; nieces: Mary Schmidt and Janet Hill; nephews: Mark Herr, Scot Herr, Glen Herr, Bob Schmidt, David Schmidt, and Tom Kotas; several cousins.
She was preceded into Heaven by her parents, husband in 1983, brothers LeRoy Herr and Delray Herr, sister-in-law Ralph (Helen) Kotas, brothers-in-law Ralph Kotas and Don Schmidt, niece Beth Kotas.
