Mardell F Uken

Mardell F. Uken, age 95 of Springfield, SD passed away Monday, November 29, 2021 at Centerville Care Center.

A celebration of life service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Springfield S.D. on December 4, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.

Mardell Nase Uken was born March 17, 1926 to Paul and Carolina (Anderst) Nase. Mardell was the youngest of three daughters and grew up on the family farm west of Armour, S.D.

After graduating high school, Mardell attended Southern State Normal in Springfield, S.D. She earned her teaching certificate and taught school several years in the Wagner and Ravina areas.

She married John Uken on September 30, 1946 and together they farmed near Springfield. They were married 71 years and raised three daughters, Judy (Roger) Hansen, Jean (Richard) Dykast and Mary (John) Guidice. Mardell was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Merry Maidens extension club.

She enjoyed sewing, reading, yeast baking and golf. After retirement, she and John spent the winter months in Texas.

John preceded her in death in 2017.

She is survived by three daughters, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Betty Nadenicek and brother-in-law Dennis Uken.
