Margie Ann (Cuka) Hovorka was born October 6, 1932 on the family farm south of Wagner to Paul and Leona (Oliva) Cuka. She was baptized, received first communion and confirmed at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wagner. Margie was the youngest of three children. She began country school at the Cheyenne School District, then transferred to Hoff District 80, where she completed 8th grade.

On February 19, 1952 she married the love of her life, Cleadues Hovorka. They were blessed with two children, Jerome and Joanie. For the next 35 years they farmed together. When not working, they spent a lot of time attending polka dances.

At the age of 50, Margie earned her GED so she could be certified as an EMT. She proudly served in this role for 25 years. During that time, Margie also, drove school bus for Bon Homme School District. Margie was a proud lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary, both of which she held all officer positions as well as District President. She was also a life member of the Tyndall Museum and the Czech Heritage Society.

If you knew Margie, you know there was nothing she wasn’t involved with, whether it was a patriotic, religious or most importantly, her grandchildren’s events, she was there. She was known to so many as mom or grandma, another role she cherished. Margie truly lived her life to the fullest and wouldn’t have changed anything about it.

Margie was reunited with Clead on October 23, 2023, at the age of 91, while surrounded by her family. She is survived by her son, Jerry (Darla) Hovorka; daughter, Joanie (David) Auch; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Amy (Jack) Eckert, Peyton, Abbie, Jackie (Corey) Vaith, Mirik, Parker, John Hofer, Kaiden, Zoey, Jason Stahlecker, Whitney (Jake) Foiles, Aurora, Thomas and Paul Hovorka; sister, Irene Hovorka; brother-in-law, Melvin Delzer; sister-in-law, Sharleen Hovorka; and numerous nieces and nephews.
