Marlene Bernice Luikens, age 83, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022 at Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital in Scotland, SD.
Marlene (Muhmel) Luikens was born March 28, 1939 on a farm 3 miles north and ½ mile east of Scotland to Clarence and Bernice Muhmel. She married Frances Kocourek 1957. He passed away in 1985.
Marlene met Dennis Luikens in 1974. After living together for 9 years, they were married in 1984. He passed away in 2011. They had been together for 37 years.
Marlene’s jobs over the years were, telephone operator in Scotland, 1956; Dale Electronics, by the bridge in Yankton, 1957; Gurney’s in Yankton; Ray’s Lounge in Scotland; Scotland Café in Scotland; head waitress at Paddock Hotel in Beatrice, Nebraska, 1964; B-Y Water; M-Tron; Dale Electronics; Swedes Bar in Lesterville, 1974; FCI in Freeman and a CNA at Scotland Good Samaritan Center. She was also an Avon Representative for 20 years.
Marlene served as the President of the Moose Lodge in Yankton in 1959. She’s participated in Fantasy Football and Baseball since 2005.
Marlene is survived by her 3 children, Ryan Kocourek, Marlyn and Kim Kocourek and Michelle and Lewis Bertsch; 5 grandchildren and their spouses, Jeremy and Donal Bertrand, Shawn and Jayme Kocourek, Gavin and Jessica Pravecek, Shannon and Jon Robinson and Rachel and Logan Tycz; 3 step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; several step-great-grandchildren and brother, Royce and Susie Muhmel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis in 2011; parents; daughter-in-law, Diane Kocourek; brother, Ronnie and sisters, Marlys Muhmel and Myrna and James Fowkes.
