Marlene Linda Konrad Nuss was born on January 2, 1932, to Walter and Helma (Bietz) Konrad of rural Tripp, SD. Marlene was one of five children and learned the value of hard work and family at a young age.
Marlene attended country school where she was the fastest, smartest, and tallest student in her grade. Of course, she was the only student in her grade! She graduated from Tripp High, becoming the bookkeeper at Kaylor Locker following graduation.
On January 9, 1951, Marlene married Floyd Nuss; they had three children: Dick, Bob, and Renee. Marlene and Floyd were married for 51 years before Floyd’s passing.
Marlene was very active in her life in Tripp. She worked at the Tripp Ledger and then at the Tripp Good Samaritan Center. She was a member of Friedens Reformed Church, being a 43-year member of the Women’s Guild. She was a member of the Tripp American Legion Auxiliary for 72 years. She was a Women’s Civic Club member, a library volunteer, and participated in many other community activities.
Marlene enjoyed many hobbies: embroidery, quilting, reading, fishing, camping, games, and jigsaw puzzles, to name a few. Most of all, she loved spending time with family and friends.
Marlene is survived by siblings, Dwayne (Bonnie) and Harlan (Judy); children: Dick of Baltimore, MD, Bob (Suk) of Brandon, SD, and Renee (James) of Tripp, SD; grandchildren: Isaac, Jacob, Robert, Michael, Diana, Liz, Laura, Julie, and Jeremy; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Leola Konrad, and her much-loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents; her brother, Willard; her sister-in-law, Frances Stoebner; her brother, Norman; her mother and father-in-law, Lydia and Eugene Nuss; her nephews, John Konrad, Tom Konrad and Don Schmoll; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Phyllis and Melvin “Tiny” Schmoll, Lorraine and Arnie Wildermuth, and Bernice and Hugo Wudel; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
