Martha Maag was born on Thursday, May 29, 1919 in Hutchinson County near Tripp, South Dakota to Charles and Lydia (Anhorn) Maag. She grew up in the Tripp area and moved to Colorado as an adult, where she worked as a nanny for a family with children. Later, she moved to Los Angeles, California where she worked for the Texaco Oil Company for 26 years. Martha was devoted to her job, but also enjoyed living in the Hollywood area. She enjoyed keeping up with the movie stars and enjoyed telling her family back home details about the celebrities that she’d seen. Horse races were her passion, and Martha loved to go to the racetracks in southern California such as Santa Anita and Hollywood Park. She loved keeping track of all the horses and would spend her spare time watching them race. In 2001, Martha moved back to the Tripp area to be near her family. As a resident of the Tripp Good Samaritan Center, she enjoyed reading and watching television. Martha died on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 8 days.
Martha is survived by her brother, Victor, of Tripp and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lydia Maag, brothers Theophil, Harold (in infancy), Arnold and Edwin, and a sister, Irma Hauck.
