Martha Johanna Ziegler

Martha Johanna Ziegler, age 100, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Menno-Olivet Care Center. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 25, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Goglin Funeral Chapel in Tripp. Funeral services will be Wednesday July 26, with viewing at 9:30 a.m. and service at 10:30 a.m. at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Tripp. Interment will follow at the Dennewitz Cemetery east of Tripp. 

Martha was born January 23, 1923 in Bon Homme County, South Dakota. She was one of 10 children born to Christian and Katie (Neth) Bauder. She was baptized February 11, 1923 at Friedenstal Lutheran Church by Rev. George Zink. She was confirmed June 19, 1938 at Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. George Zink. Her Bible verse was Psalm 121: 7-8. Martha was united in marriage to Emil Ziegler, January 26, 1947 at Scotland, SD. They farmed and raised their four children 5½ miles east of Tripp. Martha and Emil retired and moved into Tripp in February 1983. She was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Ladies Aid.

Martha loved her family, sewing, quilting, baking, gardening, and canning. Her grandchildren always knew there were cookies or bars in the freezer when they came to visit.  She loved to play games with them like jacks (which she was great at), find the button and they all learned how to jump rope in her basement. No matter how long it had been since your last visit she would say “come again soon.” 

She is survived by her children, Doris and husband David Schutz of Brandon, SD, Rudolph and wife Joann Ziegler, Clyde and wife Brenda Ziegler and Glenn and wife Tammy Ziegler all of Tripp; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil in November of 1992; sisters, Anna Friedrich, Ella Jerke and Edna Ziegler; brothers, Richard, Charles, Julius, Otto, John and William and one great-granddaughter, Caleigh Ziegler.
