Mary Uhrich

July 18, 1940 — July 11, 2025

Mary Uhrich, age 84 of Yankton, died Friday, July 11, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 19 at Goglin Funeral Home in Yankton.

Mary was born the second of four children to David and Rachel (Chase) Lewis on July 18, 1940 in Sioux Falls, SD. Mary graduated from Farmer High School in 1958. She married Roger Uhrich on May 21,1958. To this union Deb, David and Dale were born. They lived on the Uhrich family farm for several years before Roger began working for Welfl Construction and they moved to Yankton.

Mary began working at M-tron Industries during this time. Then she had a daycare while the family lived in Parkston. Upon returning to Yankton, she went back to work at M-tron Industries. Mary also worked at a daycare and Shop E-Z. She retired from First Bankcard Center to stay home and care for Roger.

Mary sang with The Sweet Adelines for 37 years. She sang with a couple of different quartets, most notably, The Interchangeables. The core members of the quartet were Mary, Dorothy Olson, Phyllis Christiansen and Gloria Brandon. They did many singing telegrams over the years, so they were highly recognized by everyone near and far. They even sang on a riverboat when they went to Branson, Missouri as a quartet. While she was President of the Sweet Adelines Yankton Chapter, she took the chorus to Washington, DC in 2005.

Some of her other pastimes were bowling, softball, and volleyball. She was not one to let grass grow under her feet. She always had some activity she was going to. Even at the age of 84, she was still playing card games and board games with her friends in her apartment complex.

Mary is survived by daughter, Debra Johnson; son, David (Lori) Uhrich; grandson, Joshua Jones, and great-granddaughter, Racquel Jones; grandson, Philip Uhrich and great-grandson, Dawson Uhrich, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Uhrich; great-grandson, Adrian Uhrich and granddaughter, Olivia (Chad) Clement. Mary is also survived by her brother, Bill Lewis of Yankton; sister, Myrna Lewis of Spearfish, SD and numerous nieces and nephews and some cousins.
