Maxine Ann Pecka

September 11, 1937 — March 15, 2022

Maxine Ann Pecka, formerly of Tyndall, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Majestic Bluffs nursing home in Yankton, South Dakota, at the age of 84. She had been a resident there for 2 years. Her daughters, Karen and Michelle were both with her when she passed away. The nurses kept her comfortable and she went peacefully.

Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. and continue until a 3:00 p.m. funeral service, Friday, March 25, 2022 at Goglin Funeral Home in Tyndall. Burial will be in the Tyndall Cemetery.

Maxine Ann (Starr) Pecka, the daughter of Earl and Laura (Christensen) Starr, was born September 11, 1938 in Fairview, South Dakota.

Maxine was the youngest of six children. She attended grade school and high school in Tyndall.

She worked at the LnR Café, The Nutrition Center and did other various jobs.

Maxine married Steve Podzimek January 24, 1955. One daughter, Karen Podzimek Zwanziger was born to this union. Maxine married Dennis Pecka January 5, 1966. One daughter, Michelle Pecka, was born to this union, September 23, 1969.

Maxine will be remembered for her love of her kitties, watching TV, collecting angels, dolls and knick-knacks. She liked to watch western movies on TV. She also enjoyed watching football games.

She was a very good mother and will be dearly missed. Her daughter, Michelle called her on the telephone every day to talk. Michelle also went to visit her mother whenever she could. Maxine always looked forward to Michelle’s phone calls.

A quote of Maxine’s was, “Take day by day.” She believed in angels, loved the sunshine and always told her daughter, Michelle, “Love you dear.”

Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Pecka of Tyndall; daughter, Karen (Myron) Zwanziger of Springfield; grandchildren, Tina (Jerry) Talsma of Avon, Tona (Ray) Valdez of New Orleans, Louisiana, Tory Zwanziger of Florence, South Carolina and Todd Zwanziger of Sioux Falls; great-grandchildren, Hayden Talsma of Avon, Hensley Talsma of Avon, Victoria Valdez of New Orleans, Kenzi Kaye Zwanziger of Sioux Falls and numerous other family members.

Maxine was predeceased by her husband, Dennis Pecka, June 2, 2013; brother, Russell Starr; brother, Merle Starr; sister, Lois Hirschman; sister, Belle Dvoracek and brother, Earl Starr, Jr. Also preceding Maxine in death were her beloved pets, cats, Kitty Lynn and Snowy White and dog, Poochie.
