Melvin Donald Schmidt

Melvin Donald Schmidt, age 89 of Scotland, SD passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater, SD.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 4 at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotland. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Scotland.

Melvin was born Friday, December 2, 1932 to Alex and Bertha (Fischer) Schmidt at Parkston, SD. Melvin grew up on the family farm, which he nurtured, until his retirement. He completed 8th grade in country school. 

Melvin married Delores Winckler, who passed away in 2000. Melvin wed Carolyn Holm, June 15, 2002.

Melvin was a simple man who loved to farm. He raised pigs and Hereford cattle. When work allow, Melvin could be found driving the country side, checking on neighbors and area crops.

Melvin is survived by his sister, Charlotte Fredrick of Mitchell; seven nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wives, Delores in 2000 and Carolyn in 2017; his brother, Reuben; sister, Lucille and one niece.
