Sharleen Kay Hovorka, age 88, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024 at her rural Tabor home.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27 at Goglin Funeral Home in Tyndall. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will be in the ZCBJ Cemetery, Tabor. Luncheon will be held at the Kortan-Hatwan American Legion hall in Tabor.

Sharleen Kay Kaiser Hovorka was born on February 16, 1936 to Donald and Emily (Killian) Kaiser in Yankton, SD. She grew up on a farm near Tabor, attending rural school. She graduated from Tabor High School. Sharleen worked at her aunt’s café through high school. She then worked as a waitress in Yankton for a while.

Sharleen married Richard Hovorka, April 23, 1956. They spent a year working in Montana before returning to the family farm, where they lived all their remaining years, She spent her life raising four children, planted gardens, raised chickens and ducks. She enjoyed sewing, embroidering, crocheting and almost any craft. She also enjoyed painting saw blades and wood decorations. Sharleen loved to bake kolaches and rolls and sold them at many craft fairs and farmers markets.

She was a life member of the Kortan-Hatwan American Legion Auxiliary. She and Richard enjoyed going to State Legion Conventions and several National Conventions. She was also a member of the Simek-Ptak VFW Auxiliary in Tyndall. They also enjoyed going to several of Richard’s Army Reunions. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and listening to Molly B.

She is survived by sons, Dave (Vicki) Hovorka, Roger (Audra) Hovorka and Tim (Gloriann) Hovorka; daughter, Cindy (Mark Schuler) Settje; grandchildren, Jackie Hovorka, Keith (Debbie) Hovorka, Kelsey (Trysten) Hovorka, Cole Hovorka , Addison Hovorka, Chantelle (Jerry) Jungemann, Travis (Samantha) Hovorka, James Cuka and Jessica (Todd) Kautz; great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Emeri, Kolten, Kip, Seraya, Isabella, Maverick, Taylee, Alex, Westin, Paisley, Devon, Alyssa, Payton and Blake; brother-in-law, Melvin Delzer; sister-in-law, Irene Hovorka and several nieces and nephews.

Sharleen was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Daisy and granddaughter, Kyndra Lambley.
