Shirley May Gall was born on July 16, 1937 to Robert and Lea (Gemar) Gall. She attended North Star country school through the 8thgrade and went on to graduate from Scotland High School in 1955. On October 4, 1959, Shirley was united in marriage to Douglas Orth in Lesterville and two children were born to this union, Lee and Kay.Shirley was a member of the Petersburg Congregational Church near Lesterville which then merged into the United Church of Christ and recently the Scotland Community Church. She faithfully served the church as a 6th grade confirmation teacher, the church organist, sang in the church choir and directed the children’s choir. Shirley was also a very active member of the women’s fellowship and was their secretary for many years.
Shirley helped Doug on the farm and milked cows for many years. If that wasn’t enough, she taught lots and lots of students how to play the piano. With her love for her piano students, she decided to become a teacher’s aide for 17 years at the Lesterville Grade School.
Her favorite pastimes were playing the piano, watching her grandkids play ball and coming to her daughter’s concerts. She will always be remembered as a wonderful mom, grandma and great-grandma.
She is survived by: son, Lee (Mary) Orth of Yankton; daughter, Kay (Kelly) Herrboldt of Lesterville; grandchildren, Riley (Jami) Hall, Zachary Orth, Tori (Blake B.) Herrboldt and Trent (Haley M.) Herrboldt; great-grandchildren, Dillon, Abriella and Marshall Hall; brother, Allen (Carmel) Gall and sister, Alice Schaefer.
Shirley was preceded into Heaven by her husband, Douglas; her parents and her brother, Dennis Gall.
