Velma E. Strunk

Velma Strunk was born on September 23, 1925 to Otto and Dora (Schnuelle) Schuette at Scotland, South Dakota. At a young age, she lost her mother and was raised alongside her brothers by her father. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bethany Reformed Church of Scotland. She attended Nelles school through 8th grade and went on to graduate from Scotland High School in 1943. After graduation, she helped her father on the farm while her brothers were in the armed forces in World War II. Later she worked at Cargill Elevator as a book keeper. On October 11, 1945, Velma was united in marriage to Delmar Strunk and for a short time they made their home in Sioux City, IA. They then lived on a farm in rural Irene, SD for 5 years before ultimately making their home on a farm west of Scotland in 1951. She worked at the Good Samaritan Society of Scotland for over 15 years. In 1990, they retired from farming and moved into Scotland. She was a member of the United Church of Christ and also a life member of the Scotland V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Velma passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at her home in Scotland having attained the age of 93 years, 11 months, and 17 days.
She is survived by son Robert (Patsy) Strunk of Scotland; daughter Sandra (Garold) Vollmer of Rapid City; 4 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Delmar, her parents, one infant daughter, one sister, five brothers, and daughter-in-law Susan Strunk.
