Violet Velda Thiesse was born Wednesday, April 24, 1929 on the family farm near Tripp, South Dakota to Henry and Rose (Stoebner) Mehlhaff. She graduated from Parkston High School and earned her teaching degree from Sioux Falls College in 1951. She was united in marriage to Laverle Thiesse and they farmed near Tripp. Over the years, Violet taught school at Ellsworth, Minnesota and in Scotland for many years. She enjoyed music and was choir director at the Olivet Methodist Church for many years and directed the “Miracles of Jesus” pageant. After their retirement, Laverle and Violet made their home in Tripp. In her later years, Violet moved to Parkston. She enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. She passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell, having attained the age of 81 years, 10 months, and 27 days.
Grateful to have shared Violet’s life are her three children: Sally (Dennis) Boehmer of Sioux City, Iowa, Todd (Christa) Thiesse of Tripp, and Blake (Erin) Thiesse of Chicago, Illinois; eight grandchildren: Shawn, Matthew, Christopher and Alicia Boehmer, Philip and Rebecca Thiesse, and Sierra and Ryan Thiesse; and a sister, Laverna Mehlhaff of Chicago, Illinois.
In addition to her parents, Henry and Rose Mehlhaff, she was preceded in death by her husband, Laverle Thiesse, a grandson, Garrett Thiesse, and two brothers, Edward Mehlhaff and Donald Mehlhaff.
Christa, Todd & Family; Please accept our deepest sympathies. Your Mom was a proud lady and I always enjoyed when she substituted at the school. She was very good with children and shared a smile with all. I know that you have many fond memories of her and will be able to share those for generations to come. Remember that she will be watching over you and resting comfortable with our Lord. God Bless. Mike

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family. Vi was a dear friend to all of us in Ranchero Village. We had many "Happy Hours" together.

To the family of Violet Thiesse: I wanted to let you know my thoughts are with you at this time. Violet was my mom's (Dorothy Dennis) cousin and she was our neighbor when we lived on the farm by Tripp. I always thought Violet was very witty and funny. She was fun to be around and really liked to tease people. She will not be forgotten. Brenda Uttecht

To the family of Vi. What a wonderful lady! I last visited with her at the reunion in 2007. Still remembered our names and was a delight to talk to. She will be remembered as the best English teacher a class could have and must be given credit for some of our success in life. Condolences to your family! She was a great example of a life well lived! Ron Hansen ( Class of 1962 Ellsworth, Mn)

Mrs. Thiesse would probaby remember me as one of her most rowdy students at Ellsworth but It was great to see her at the all school reunion. It gave me the chance to give her a CD of Gospel songs I have written and to thank her for her part in that. She reached out to me and influenced my life in a way only a gifted caring teacher can; with love and discipline. Class of "65" Bob The Burning Bush "On Fire For Christ"
